"Schoolhouse Rock Live" @ Hayes ES this week

Hayes Elementary School presents “Schoolhouse Rock Live” tonight and tomorrow at 6:30. This high-energy show uses music and dance to teach kids about everything from grammar to science. With popular songs like “Three is a Magic Number” and “I’m Just a Bill,” the show is a fun-filled event the whole family will enjoy. Schoolhouse Rock is the first play to be done at Hayes ES and involves nearly 100 students from grades one through five.

Superhero Awards to be held at Hayes ES Nov. 26

Hayes ES will hold its annual Superhero Awards/Red Carpet Assembly on Wed., Nov. 26 at 10 a.m. One or two students per classroom are nominated by classmates to receive a Superhero Award which celebrates positive character traits. Superheroes will walk the red carpet of this formal affair to receive their award from the tuxedo-clad principal, Scott Bailey. Afterward, the honored students will be photographed by paparazzi and sign a "Hollywood" star.

Brinley MS students raise money for statue

Students at Brinley Middle School are taking part in the "Pennies for Freedom" project, raising money to help build the "Statue of Responsibility" off the coast of San Diego. The school will hold an assembly concerning this project Friday from 8:50 to 10 a.m. For details, call Rebecca Peplinski at 799-4550.

Johnson JHS to hold community sale Nov. 22

Johnson Junior High School will hold a community yard sale on Sat., Nov. 22 from 8-4 in the school's parking lot. The proceeds will benefit the school's self-contained Special Education programs. Johnson JHS is located at 7701 Ducharme Avenue, Las Vegas.

Good news for Cheyenne High School students

Thanks to the Lincy Foundation grant announced earlier this year, students at Cheyenne High School will no longer have to pay any fees associated with any courses.

Bridger MS to benefit from $10,000 grant

National Security Technologies, the Nevada Test Site's prime contractor, has awarded a $10,000 education grant to support a Desert Research Institute GreenPower installation at Bridger Middle School.

Two CCSD orchestras to be featured in Chicago

The Green Valley HS and Hyde Park MS orchestras have been selected to perform in Chicago on Dec. 17 & 18 at the premier conference for music education in the U.S.

Congratulations to Greenspun JHS yearbook staff

Greenspun JHS Yearbook Advisor Jeff Wollard, along with the yearbook staff, received one of the National Scholastic Press Association's highest awards - All-American with five marks of distinction - for the school's 2007-08 yearbook. It marks the first time a junior high school has been given this high level of recognition.
