Centennial High School will host the Middle Level Leadership Conference on Saturday, featuring 44 schools and over 700 middle school students. More than 100 high school students will present workshops and provide training to the attendees.

C.T. Sewell Empowerment School celebrated its annual literacy night Nov. 13 with the theme, “Out of this World.” Over 300 parents and 400 students attended. Teachers provided hands-on literacy activities such as writing about Saturn and viewing it through a telescope, making solar system mobiles and learning the phases of the moon.

The Southern Nevada Health District will provide H1N1 vaccine to priority group members at immunization clinics to be held at the following schools on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9-6:

Orr Middle School held a "Miracle Minute" to raise money for the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. Students raised $444 in just one minute. The school will present the donation to the Rescue Mission on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 3:20 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Jacky Guo, a fifth grade student at Mendoza Elementary School, received four tickets to SeaWorld as a winner in the 10th annual Albertsons SeaWorld Sweepstakes. Students wrote about what they like best/most about school. Click here to read Jacky's winning essay.

The Clark County School District was recognized Nov. 12 for its use of digital technology in interfacing with students, parents and the community. The School Board and district officials received an award from the Center for Digital Education, the National School Boards Association and Converge Online magazine.

Green Valley High School's Forensics Team, under the direction of Scott Ginger, has been named one of the nation's top 100 schools in speech and debate activities by the National Forensics League (NFL). GVHS ranks 37th out of over 3,000 schools nationwide based on student participation and excellence in speech and debate activities.

Not all diagnoses of the flu utilize the formal testing, and not all flu-like symptoms are confirmed cases of influenza or H1N1. Gavin Romzek, Civil Engineering/CADD Instructor at the Northwest CTA, wrote and received the 2009 Wells Fargo "Grant a Wish for Your School" grant. His class will receive a projector and other equipment valued at $2,765. NWCTA is one of 27 public schools in Nevada to receive this grant.
